Soak Your Face In Green Tea

I usually wash my face twice a day. It’s a good thing because if I didn’t I would probably have oily and pimpled skin. I love to wear makeup and I pride myself on its application. Blue eyeshadow and red lipstick are my daily staples. I look quite amazing, I must admit. But let me get back to the point at hand: the washing of the face. I have found the best face wash ever - and it’s not water.

I drink a lot of green tea and I have often read about its antiaging effects on the skin, so I thought I would try something new — washing my face with it. I start out by using a mild cleanser and then soak a soft cloth with warm green tea and apply it to my face for a couple minutes. Since I have started this routine, I have noticed my face is smoother than ever! I plan to keep green tea as a part of my antiaging skin care routine as long as possible.

As part of the daily intake of several million of the healthiest people in the world, green tea can be an essential component of good health.  Asian cultures, mainly China and Japan, have consumed green tea for centuries, with the tea now growing popular in other areas in the world.  This increase in popularity is commonly attributed to the tea’s proven ability to oxidize fat, actually burning calories by consuming it, as well as a variety of other beneficial healing effects.  Green tea contains about a third as much caffeine as a similar amount of coffee, but because of its benefits, is being more frequently chosen.

Green tea has long been used in China as a remedy for everything from headaches to depression, but it is only recently that it gained notoriety in the western world as something beneficial. The benefits of green tea are many, and most are due to the positive effects of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an anti-oxidant that also limits the negative effects of smoking and fatty diets, and decreases the likeliness of heart disease. EGCG also inhibits the growth of cancer cells, and kills cancer cells without harming the healthy tissue.

A 1994 study by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute demonstrated this fact when it released a study showing that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly 60 percent. Green tea also reduces the amount of bad cholesterol, and helps with rheumatoid arthritis, infection, and impaired immune function, among many other things.

Compared to the placebo and caffeine, green tea extract consumption produced a significant 4% increase in 24-hour energy expenditure. If you consume 2,000 calories per day and don’t gain or lose weight, an increase of 4% would translate roughly into an 80-calorie daily difference. Over a year, this could result in nine pounds of weight loss.

Recent evidence shows that in the battle of fat loss, the benefits of green tea may be superior to plain caffeine. According to a new study, green tea appears to accelerate calorie burning - including fat calories. Researchers suggest compounds in green tea called flavonoids may change how the body uses a hormone called norepinephrine, which then speeds the rate calories are burned.
